How Central America Gets Ignored

Time to step on some more toes. Look, this is not meant to disparage the Mexican population and what they’ve suffered under the administration of Peña Nieto but at the same time, because mainstream media caters to the largest Latinx demographic in North America, the stories relating to Central America get ignored.

While many Latinxs across all nationalities spoke out in indignation over the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa, hardly anyone acknowledged or even knew that there are presently 20,000 disappeared Central American migrants. Mexican immigration authorities routinely capture migrants and hand them over to the cartels, never to be heard from again.

The current economic bullying Mexico is experiencing is the direct result of the shady deals and machination Peña Nieto and his cronies have been conducting with the Trump administration. The ones to suffer will be the Mexican population, and I feel for them. But at the same time, no on feels for us Central Americans. Once again, the fact that BOTH the U.S. and Mexican governments have labeled Central American migrants as a threat their mutual security got lost in all the sympathy we’re supposed to be feeling for Mexico.

So I’m sorry, but miss me with the Latin American solidarity. Until we can acknowledge how the most marginalized and least poweful regions get ignored and screwed over (Central America & the Carribean) by the larger nations, there ain’t no solidarity.
