San Romero y la juventud

San Romero y la juventud

I’ve been thinking a lot about Andrés Guardado, andhow best to honor him. I wanted to reaffirm that he will always be part of his Salvadoran community, both in this life and in the next. And so, I imagined him being welcomed to the afterlife with open arms by San Romero. But the sad reality is that Andrés wouldn’t be alone, because he is only the latest in a long line of Salvadoran children and youth whom we’ve lost to the violence of civil war, state repression, and racist foreign policies. And so, this is dedicated to the ALL Salvadoran youth who have been unjustly taken from us.

Erick Adrián Robles García – a 6-year old migrant who drowned off the coast of Chiapas in 2016.

María Senaida Escobar Ramírez – a 19-year-old migrant who was shot and murdered by Mexican police in 2019 in Veracruz, Mexico.

Angie Valeria Martínez Cerritos – a 23-month-old migrant infant who drowned with her father, Óscar, as they crossed the Rio Grande in June of 2019.

Andrés Guardado – an 18-year-old young man who was murdered by Gardena police in 2020

May they rest in power. May our dead walk with San Romero in paradise. And may we as a Salvadoran community have the fortitude to continue to fight for justice in their names.
