Yes, Salvadoran Men Are Trash
This cartoon is intended for Salvadoran cis men:
**TRIGGER WARNING** Discussion of misogynist acts.
On Feb. 21st, @Mrs_Cr7 posted on Twitter “Can we discuss how trash Salvadoran men are?” Naturally, the sister got tons of support from other Salvi and Central American womxn. But as can be expected, all manner of cis men jumped into the conversation, clutching their chests about how hurt they felt. I feel that perhaps this cartoon can continue that conversation started by sister @Mrs_Cr7, and because I also happen to be a cis man, perhaps my fellow cis men will ACTUALLY LISTEN.
Dear Salvi cis men. This platform wholeheartedly agrees with our sisters, that we ARE trash. Nothing historically, culturally, politically, or even intimately within our own families disproves this fact. Stop regarding the men in our histories and our families as heroes, and more like potential (likely) predators. Rampant Salvadoran male chauvinism is the reason why El Salvador is one of the most dangerous places for womxn.
So this is what I’m asking for my fellow cis men:
1) Shut the hell up and LISTEN. Don’t get defensive. Don’t just react. REFLECT.
2) Don’t center your own goddamned feelings.
3) Do NOT question the experiences of womxn.
4) Don’t tone police how womxn express themselves.
5) Do not pull out the #NotAllMen card, because YOU ARE THAT MAN!
6) Accept that we will always be work-in-progress allies. You will never graduate to being a “good man.”
