Hot Takes: Sleeper Agents

To my fellow cis men,

We are ALL ticking time bombs of abusive behavior, especially when we are in positions of power. As we all look at how the accountability process for Undocumedia co-founder, Ivan Ceja, unfolds, this is a sobering moment for all of us to look deep inside and recognize how our internalized white supremacy, misogyny, and heterosexism not only hurt and re-traumatize the people we are supposed to be working with, but end up serving the needs of a repressive state.

The only allyship we as cis men ever faithfully demonstrate is to the state.

It’s time we step down from positions of power, to take the back seat, to learn to trust the leadership of womxn, queer, and trans folx, especially of color. Because as history has shown, unless we’re leading people to their deaths, we almost always end up being shitty leaders in the struggle for liberation.
